Put Big Light On - Bolton 2023

We curated the inaugural Put Big Light On festival over two weekends in Bolton town centre - kicking off with three nights of the amazing Borealis by Dan Acher in Bolton’s beautiful Victoria Square. The freezing weather aded to the awe-inspiring impact of this incredible piece - and thousands of people flocked to witness it.

Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon opened the newly restored Library space and during its 21 days in situ was host to a number of gorgeous events such as baby yoga and a gong bath.

Liz West’s Our Spectral Vision highlighted the gorgeous architecture of the old market hall - inspiring visitors with her incredible take on colour and its impact on us.

For the second weekend, Evanescent by Atelier Sissu literally filled Victoria Square whilst Phil Holmes’ Aqualux entertained the crowds with dancing tunes - and a message about water consumption.

We also invited Hannah and Dan Fox (Sound Intervention) to Bolton with their incredible projections. Through workshops held at Bolton Museum, local children from Bolton created delightful festive illustrations which were then animated and projected onto photo-stand boards so real life people could join the drawings! Alongside this, Dan brought his Projector Bikes with him who rode around the city centre projecting onto unexpected surfaces whilst on the move!
